Monotype became the starting point of ' Rooted. Alive. ' project.

It records pressure, contact, and transformation in a direct way.

Each print holds the trace of a moment that cannot be repeated.

In the summer of 2025, I was in Japan. And I was struck by the trees there.

Their foliage was denser and more abundant than the trees I knew in London.

The mass of leaves felt saturated with vitality. It was not subtle. It was overwhelming.

I began making monotypes in response to that encounter.

The process allowed me to capture immediacy. A monotype produces a single impression.

It cannot be repeated in the same way. That singular transfer felt aligned with the idea of life as a momentary state.

The early prints were rooted in trees and dense clusters of leaves.

Gradually the focus shifted. Flowers growing between rocks appeared. Bushes standing against the sea.

At times the forest itself became the subject.

The motif changed, but the inquiry remained the same. I was not describing specific landscapes.

I was examining how vitality occupies space. How it expands, adapts, and persists.
